Raman spectroscopy method for differentiating streptococcal strains grown on agar media

Abstract

As a result of the conducted studies and linear discriminant analysis, spectral differences were identified between the studied streptococcal strains. These differences manifest themselves at Raman lines of ~484 cm-1 (glycogen), ~1280 cm-1 (Amide III and rocking vibrations of CH2 groups of the protein matrix), and ~1330 cm-1 (phospholipids). These differences are due to the structural and metabolic characteristics of the studied bacterial strains.
It was demonstrated that Raman spectroscopy can be successfully applied to differentiate streptococcal strains.
These results can be used as a basis for developing an analyzer for differentiating streptococcal strains.
