Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical model describing interaction of two modes in a gyrotron with fixed Gaussian field profile operating at the fundamental cyclotron harmonic. The model uses electron susceptibility function that is pre-calculated numerically for various values of the amplitudes of the two modes and cyclotron resonance mismatch, and then is expressed as a function of these variables interpolating the calculated dependences. Based on the developed model, an analysis of mode competition processes is conducted, and a comparison with numerical simulations is provided. Phase portraits of a two-mode gyrotron model were plotted for different values of normalized beam current and cyclotron resonance mismatch.
