Abstract

Round Table: Quantum transition time and photon coherence

According to textbooks, the transition between stationary states of a quantum system occurs instantly. However, in the case of transition with radiation, the wave train arises as a flow of transition energy, so the transition cannot be instantaneous. This report proposes the dynamical model of quantum transition in which reduction to the final state occurs dynamically but not instantly. The quantum transition consists of a perturbation of the initial state and a reduction to the final state. The perturbation is a continuous evolution and the reduction is a piecewise continuous periodic evolution in accordance with the Schrodinger equations. The periodic interruptions in the continuous flow of reduction occur by isolating the real part of the wave function. The wave train of radiation arises during a time consisting of the perturbation time and the reduction time, the sum of which determines the coherence time of the photon.
